About

My name is Dr. Jesse Golden-Marx and I am an Astronomer. Currently, I am a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Astronomy at Shanghai Jiao Tong University working with Prof. Ying Zu.

The purpose of Astronomer in Shanghai is not to talk primarily about my research on the galaxy-halo connection, although, occasionally, I will discuss Astronomy and Astronomy conferences. Instead, I will use this platform to discuss my experiences living in Shanghai. The posts will cover a variety of topics, including: exploring Shanghai, as a vegan, what I eat, travel to other parts of China and Asia, my experiences as a Jew living in Shanghai, and the day-to-day life of an Astronomer.

I’m originally from Saratoga Springs, NY. I did my undergraduate work at Brown University, where I graduated with an Sc.B. in Physics in 2013. I then received my Masters and Ph.D. in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Michigan in 2019. I did my Ph.D. research on the galaxy-dark matter halo connection and central galaxy evolution with Prof. Chris Miller.
